Gender pay gap question

Question once a company is drawn out for this inequality is anything actually done because I personally would love for this attention for the pay gap to be solved and not continually talked about

What can be done? The data is not fit for such use.

If a company employs, say fifty men and fifty women (all full time) who are in senior roles and earn broadly the same high salaries according to role it will demonstrate no pay gap. If it also employs 100 part time cleaners, say, on much lower pay, 80% of whom are women, all again paid the same, it will show a pay gap in favour of men. Yet it is happy to pay men and women the same pay for the same role. However, the part time roles are wanted by women and not wanted by men, so the figures are skewed.

The pay equality is about the job they actuallly do and not about how many do that job so if one man was an accountant and one woman was an accountant surely they should be paid the same. So equal work for equal pay.

My example above covers that point and explains why there might be a pay gap which is reasonable.

In practice, of course, you don't expect all people doing the same role to be paid the same, even if they are of the same sex. Some are more able or have more experience and will earn more.

anwser to this would be to pay all men less, ie. take it down to the lowest paid woman - that would be easy right - or what are the chances that all these overentitled, over sexed, middle class women would still be whining

but it's not always as simple as that. here's an example: person x is better at the job, gets raises to commend their work and give them an incentive to stay in the company and is more aggresive about their worth and asks directly for a raise; person y is not so talented at the same job, not very assertive about asking for a raise. person x could be a woman, but let's say they are a man and person y a woman - does person y really have a right to complain? I am not saying there isn't institutional sexism but there are also understandable reasons why there is different pay for the same job.

Although the pay may be same for men and women in some places, it may not in others. This is what we are trying to fix!
There is no "gender pay gap" as it exists in the media, it has been illegal for over 40 years to pay mean and women differently for the same job based on their gender, the actual pay gap between men and women in the same positions is about 2%, which can be attributed to less experience (taking time off to care for children) and worse negotiating tactics.
