Resitting GCSEs

I'm doing distance learning and I'm predicted A* in English, Maths, Biology and Chemistry A level and want to apply to Medicine next year, but to cut a long story short, I was ill during my GCSEs and only got Bs and Cs. Since medical schools take GCSEs so seriously, should I retake or is it just a waste of time?

Yes You should because I am in a similar position but i have already started my as levels so i have to wait till next september to retake as well as my as levels this is important because they will look at gcses as medicine is a competitive course. I also got Bs instead of As in a few subjects where i was predicted A's but got B's by missing the grade by 3-5 ums marks on nearly 5 subjects but the others were fine.
I hope you make the right decision and good luck for the future.

If there is a number of gcses you are unhappy with and want to resit where can you actually resit them because I doubt a school is going to want a student resitting 3 or 4 of their GCSEs while trying to do a levels aswell? Is it even possible to get into sixth form if you have plans to resit a number of your gcses, can you still do your As levels and then go onto do A2? Is there any particular places which offer GCSE resits at an affordable price or anywhere you can possibly inquire? Sorry about the number of questions i'm asking I'm just curious to find out how it all works incase I need to resit a GCSE(s).

It's a really bad idea to resit GCSEs when you're in Year 12. The only subjects where you really kinda need to have a C or above are English, Maths and Science and if you don't manage to get a C in those then A Levels are probably not the best route for you. If you're the kind of student who struggles at GCSE, you're going to find A Levels even more difficult so the last thing you need is more distractions in the form of GCSE retakes.

Hey guys. I'm in a similar situation.

I am on my second (A2) year at college carrying on with three A levels: Law, Sociology and English literature and language combined. My AS results were: Law - A, Sociology - A, Eng - B, and my predicted grades for next year are A* A A. I'm wanting to do law at the following options: Kings, City London, University of Law or SOAS. The only problem is, due to family matters, during my AS year I was unable to retake maths GCSE which I unfortunately failed at secondary. I'm retaking it this year during A2 and I'm on target for a C. I was just wondering how you got on in the end and what the likely hood is of me being able to do what I want? would I need to justify the maths situation in my PS? Also, my GCSE grades were: English - B, Philosophy - B, Art - A, Science - C, Maths - D. I've never been good with numbers, but I adore studying law more then anything. It was really difficult last year for me to have retaken maths as well as 4 A levels. So, how did you get on in the end? and has anyone else ever been in this situation?
