Current students / holders of offers - did you get rejected by other universities?

It's not that I think an offer from Oxford or Cambridge should entitle you to offers from other universities, or anything - I'm just curious.

I've been rejected by Bristol and Warwick so far. My personal take is that I don't particularly 'stand out' on paper; my grades are decent, but they're certainly not flawless. So I suppose I had more chances to 'prove myself' to Oxford - through the admissions test, the essay I submitted, and the interview. That, and I know different universities do have different criteria, and obviously I didn't meet the criteria at Bristol and Warwick.

So, did you get offers from all of your other choices, or did you get some rejections? And if so, do you have any ideas about where you went wrong with those universities?

I was rejected by one of my choices (Peninsula Medical School); medicine is very competitive at all universities and it's not uncommon.

No, I applied to two other universities and they both accepted me.
No, but then again I applied to a very wide swathe of universities; Essex, UEA and Oxford Brookes wanted me quite a lot.
No.
Nope.

Yep I was rejected from York and Durham.

Nina, it's their loss! I didn't apply
I think the opposite is more common, where only Oxbridge reject you. (eg me! ) I got offers from all the rest though, so I guess its the application process which really does the trick for them?

Nope; obscure subject choice plus top grades ftw

I was rejected by Newcastle without interview. I was a bit annoyed as they were my joint favourite with Cambridge, but c'est la vie; at the time I was happy to have got in anywhere for Medicine.
Yeah I wanted to go to York if i didn't come here, so i wasn't very happy, although 3 days later I heard from Cambridge so i forgave them very quickly.

UCL. The bastards.
Edinburgh rejected me because I don't have a modern language GCSE, even though I explained to them why

Rejected from LSE because of poor GCSEs
Although I've not been rejected from any universities as yet (I have other offer besides Cambridge plus an interview for a possible insurance), I imagine that a lot of Oxbridge offer holders will have been rejected after, say, subsequently withdrawing from an interview for a university that would just offer AAA anyway.

Rejected by Southampton for Medicine - not sure why, TBH & the rejection letter said not to bother contacting to ask.

I thought I'd come across pretty well on paper & wasn't so sure about the interviewing places (Southampton don't routinely interview), but got all of those offers! :p:

hit all six bases, too.
sometimes wonder what it'd be like if i'd gone to bristol (not that i regret coming to oxford)- they made me a CCC offer which was rather tempting.

Or my CDD Brookes offer, IIRC...
