It's funny I should spot this topic since I've just come off Track. I have an offer to read English at Oxford, but I've been rejected by Manchester and UCL, and now I find KCL too. Warwick have, at least, given me an interview.
My head of year emailed Manchester repeatedly for the reasons for my rejection, and eventually got a reply last week saying that the competition was fierce and, basically, I wasn't good enough...
Do you think that if ur accepteed by either Oxford or Cambridge your other universities somehow seem to find out and give you rejections? Or am I just being cynical
I was accepted everywhere I applied to for law: Sheffield: AAB, Queens Belfast: AAB, Exeter: AAB, Sussex: CC and Kent: EE I don't know why they all wanted me It might have been my LNAT maybe. I'm at Cambridge (Caius) reading law (2nd year)

LOL they send that to everyone who asks for feedback. A girl in my class was rejected by manchester before interview.
"You were a very strong candidate on paper, however, there were others that were stronger."
As if! This girl had 12a*1a, 5a at AS, and an average of 680/900 on the ukcat. I had 4a*6a, 5a at AS, and an average of 720/900 on the ukcat.
So, an extra 40 ukcat marks shows more promise in predicting future medical success than 8a*. I know that they like the ukcat, but come on, it can't be THAT great at predicting suitability.
Can they do that? What if you've already chosen your Insurance and Firm?
Apparently so - maybe they feared I would spread word that they rejected me for unfair reasons or something, or maybe they hadn't looked at my reference properly... meh.

It would be nice to think so, wouldn't it? But alas, no - I think it's highly unlikely that this would happen. I fully accept that it was down to not meeting the criteria for those universities - other people must have been better (some maybe just on paper, but also several in reality).
I also think it makes a big difference in terms of what you've applied to study. Most of the people who seem to have been rejected applied for things like Medicine, Law and (to a lesser extent) English, all of which are very competitive, therefore causing a lot more ruthlessness in admissions!
i was rejected by st andrews. apparently it was because my PS showed clearly that i was applying for ppe elsewhere, while i was applying for phil + econ there. crappy reason tbh
I can beat you both. EEE from Southampton. I was tempted to accept that and then just not go to my exams as I'd have Es anyway from getting As at AS level.
I got rejected from Bristol and Warwick but thought it was quite funny as I already had an offer from Oxford. I'd only applied to Warwick to fill the last place on my form so I sometimes wonder whether I didn't read the course requirements properly or something.
So far I've only been deferred from Georgetown ( I applied early)..but I applied to their most competitive school so I'm not really too fussed.
A lot of times in the states when people apply to backup schools they might end up not getting in...simply because if a mediocre school sees somebody applying with amazing test scores and a great GPA then the school knows chances are the student has got better options for college, and won't actually end up coming.
It's not that I think an offer from Oxford or Cambridge should entitle you to offers from other universities, or anything - I'm just curious.
I've been rejected by Bristol and Warwick so far. My personal take is that I don't particularly 'stand out' on paper; my grades are decent, but they're certainly not flawless. So I suppose I had more chances to 'prove myself' to Oxford - through the admissions test, the essay I submitted, and the interview. That, and I know different universities do have different criteria, and obviously I didn't meet the criteria at Bristol and Warwick.
So, did you get offers from all of your other choices, or did you get some rejections? And if so, do you have any ideas about where you went wrong with those universities?
