Can Itake Latin at A level without taking it at GCSE? If so what is the best way of getting some beforehand knowledge of the subject?

I did Latin GCSE I think only private schools do it at A level I don't think you can do it without the GCSE but last time I checked there was an online course for Latin A level so maybe you can start that without GCSE but I am unsure.

In theory, you *can* take the A-Level Latin exams without having done GCSE first. However, I think nearly all schools/sixth forms offering Latin A-Level would expect you to be at GCSE standard before taking it - they don't teach it from scratch.

If you really wanted to do Latin at A-Level, then my suggestion would be to find a Latin tutor who could take you through the grammar that you need to know for GCSE between now and whenever you're going to be starting your A-Levels.

I did latin at GCSE and got all A’s and A*’s consistently. I do it at alevel and I never get Above a C, it is so ridiculously hard.
I would not recommend taking it up for the first time at alevel unless it is really necessary for your career. Xxx
