Well.... the normal day on a Saturday runs like this:

9.00: Breakfast: This is compulsory for those in the lower school (Years 7-11) but Sixth Formers are allowed not to go.
10:00-12:00: Study in one of the school class rooms- again Sixth Formers are allowed not to go and we can just study in our rooms.
12:30 Lunch
1-6pm: Free time and yes we can go out to local places! I normally go into the local town with some friends. However, the lower school have to be escorted by a teacher who comes with them.
6:00: Dinner
7-10: Free time again...

Sixth Formers have a LOT more freedom than the lower school. For example, up to Year 11 you were forced to hand in your phone at 10pm every evening and did not get it back until the school day finished at 4pm the next day. On weekdays however, ALL students have to attend every meal time and participate in house meetings. If you want to go to a friend's house you have to get permission from their parent and yours as well as from the Head of Boarding. You are also not allowed to have candles, have bluetac on the walls....

But yes I do have lots of friends which I see as much as I can on the weekends as I find boarding school quite lonely sometimes. If you have any more questions ask!
Do you share a room?
Why did you decide to go to boarding school?

How strict is it?
What are the personalities generally like there? Stereo typically in my mind theirs loads of posh rich guys. Is it boys and girls?

Why a boarding school?
I think parents need to enjoy their children more and on a day to day basis.
What are you points that favour a boarding school as compared to daily Home contact with one or both parents?
Hi, I'm going to be going to boarding school (never been before in my life) this September for 6th form. Are there any boarding essentials and how hard is it to make new friends?

No I don’t fortunately because I started boarding in Year 12 and Sixth Formers have their own rooms. I didn’t decide- it was because of my family’s job. I would always go to boarding school at some point.

I wouldn’t say that it is strict although I think that because it gives you more independence you begin to resent the rules in Year 13. For example if I want to go outside of the local town, meet friends or family and stay over I have to have parent permission and an invitation from the host too. However it could be worse and I get to keep my phone!

There are definitely a lot of stereotypes! There is and there isn’t lots of rich kids. Sure the Chinese students who make up 75% have a lot of money but my boarding school isn’t that expensive compared to others. I mean you don’t see Porsche etc here. My friends and I don’t talk about money or anything and it’s pretty normal.

Well, due to my dads work I had limited choice to come here as my dad travels all the time. However, it was a family decision and I’ve been at the school for 5 years as a day student before I boarded. I admit it was a difficult transition and I miss home but I think you do become more independent and gain more social and life skills. I think this makes you much more mature that other people my age. Although I miss my family I think because I boarded at a older age it wasn’t much of an issue for me as it protentially could have been

Hi! I actually started boarding at the same age as you. Hmmm I think first be very friendly and open and try to make friends with a wide range of people. Depending on your background I find it easier to be friends with people whose culture are closest to your own. Don’t be put off by the Chinese students speaking Chinese because it’s common and I wouldn’t bother trying to make friends unless they also make an effort. Just be friendly. If you share a room invite your dorm friend to watch movies or explore the local town. I would also bring headphones and lots of snacks! If you have any more questions please ask. I was very nervous when I first started

Haha! It’s mixed. The school introduced boys 2 years before I started but they only make up around 20% of the community (sadly! )

I go to boarding school too although I am a day pupil :-) does your school have day pupils and do they integrate into school life as well as the boarders?

Oh really! That’s what I used to be. We do and they make up 80% of the school. I think generally that the school makes an big effort and that European students find it easier to intergrate more successfully. However, because we have a large community of Chinese students they gang together and speak Chinese which gives people a bad image of everyone.... :s but there are exceptions!

Awesome! We have a connection! It’s in Kent about an hour from London. I am finding it okay but I admit I struggled with the work life balance as the day School is directly below. Therefore I found it difficult to switch off but it’s better this year. I have ups and downs but I think it’s generally fine  Yours?
