What did you get then? Did you receive your results?

So I got my mock results back before Christmas and I feel like such failure, especially after going on TSR and reading about people who got all 8/9 in their mocks.

I was wondering what your mock results were, and if you have done them already, how your GCSEs compared to your mocks, and what you did to obtain those grades.

My mock results:

English Lit- 6 (I was the most upset about this one. I cried for a good few hours. I WAS 1 MARK OFF A 7 TOO!)
English Lang- 9
Geography- 7
German- 7
Science- 6 (I do double. Got a 6 in all 3 sciences)
Maths- 5 (Never been good at Maths. My worst subject.)
Spanish- 6
Drama- 6
History- 6

I am not saying a 6 is "bad" btw.

sorry please can you tell me how you did it for english because am having mock next week an my english seems impossible to understand

Although I got 6s in my mocks for English - I got 9s in the real thing.
Anyway, for English Language you need to make sure you know what the question is asking you and what the examiner wants from you. If you don't get that for each question, and know exactly what you need to write you'll struggle.

English Lit or Language?

You may have heard this already, but use Mr Bruff and Mr Salles on Youtube. Mr Salles was especially great.

Wow how much you've improved!!!
I'm just looking at these results and they are amazing. I've still got a few mocks left :frown: and will get results next week. Hope I don't get anything disappointing.

I did my GCSEs last year. In my December mocks, I got 9 7 7+ 7 7 6 7 A B 4, and I got an A in my March FSMQ Add Maths mock.

In the real thing, I got 9 9 9 9 9 9 8 A* A 7, and an A in FSMQ Add Maths.

As my year was the first to do the new GCSEs for most subjects, our teachers were wayyyyy off with the mock grade boundaries. After my mocks, I put more focus on the subjects I did weaker in, whilst continuing my revision in other subjects. There isn't a single, correct way to revise. There are many different ways, which work for different people, who will each need to spend different amounts of time on different subjects. Just do the (different) ways (per subject) that suit you, which help you to best remember the content. And don't worry, you have plenty of time to get the grades you want :smile:

Oh, that's good. What's your English literature awarding body, and what texts are you studying?

I'm doing OCR, and studying Dracula with The Bloody Chamber, A Doll's House with Maud and Othello I believe :smile:

Fair enough, I too am with OCR, but am studying dystopian literature (although I am still doing A Doll's House with Rosetti poetry). What is your Shakespeare play?

Oh come on, those are really good results (Unless you go to some high achieving school then I understand). Mocks don't really = to real grades, there have been loads of examples where people did really good in their mocks and f ed up the real thing and vice versa.

Oh come on, this thread is so old that this student doesn't really need the advice anymore. He even posted his actual results on the thread. (This is assuming you were talking to him, of course. I'm not sure who else you were trying to give this advice to.)
Your mocks are not bad! I know you are disappointed in yourself because you know you can do better, but trust me you'll know a lot more when the real exams come around. I can sympathise very much with maths because it was my worst subject, but I tackled it head on. These were my stats, I hope you will gain some confidence from the following in this order-Mocks Round 1: Mocks Round 2: Final Exam Grade:
English Language 6 7 9English Literature 6 6 8Biology A A A*Chemistry C B A*Physics B A A* Maths 4 5 8Geography B B A*Spanish C C ABusiness C B AChild Development A A AMedia No mock No mock AI kept going and working hard because I was not satisfied with my grades. The no 1 thing you need to have is perseverance. For maths, from around this time I did a paper EVERYDAY. This is the only reason I jumped that many grades. The new GCSE has so many practise papers made in the new style, that it is possible to legit do a paper everyday. After doing several papers, write a list of topics you are recurringly getting wrong then relearn that topic. Mathsgenie is a really good website to target topics specifically one at a time. For english, I looked for linguistic techniques which were well beyond GCSE online and used them to analyse the texts. I made a quizlet with ALL these techniques and ran through them on my way to school every now and then. For sciences you need to make flashcards for the model answers that are always asked beause in GCSE there are plenty of these. For geography learning case studies very well using flashcards is your best bet. Good Luck, and make sure you work hard consistently to prevent last-minute panic.

Don’t sweat, I got Cs, Ds and Es in both my GCSE mocks, (School thought one set wasn’t enough) and my actual results were 4A*s, 5As and 2Bs. You have plenty of time to improve provided you put the effort in

Oh ****, didn't look at the date the OP posted this, this is well over a year ago.
I'm doing my English Lit this year, in year 10 and just got a 9 in the mocks. My English teacher believed I'm capable of receiving a 9 anyway, or an 8 as you can't predict 9s. Working hard so I can get a good grade in the GCSE!
Mocks - 77AAA6BBC
Actual - 988A*A*7AAB

I also took level 2 further maths in the actual exams, for which I didn't have a mock, and got an A* in the real thing.

Notable increases:
Maths - 7 -> 9
Geography - 6 -> 8
Biology - C -> A*
Yes, you can undergo massive improvements from your mocks to the real thing. The mocks are often (but sometimes not) marked more harshly, and you take mocks under far higher pressure than the actual exams (assuming you have no timetable clashes). So going up by 1 grade is far from unrealistic. If you're prepared to do the work and can balance your time commitments, a 2, 3 or even 4 grade jump is not unreasonable.

For my mocks I got a 9, six 8's, two 7's and an A*. I seriously cannot believe my eyes. I thought I was going to see a bunch of 6's but I was wrong. I'm pretty happy with all of them, however I feel my maths (7) I could've done better. I'm still happy with it, but I got around 70% from 240 marks. And also need an 8 to do them for A levels :|
