So I got my mock results back before Christmas and I feel like such failure, especially after going on TSR and reading about people who got all 8/9 in their mocks.

I was wondering what your mock results were, and if you have done them already, how your GCSEs compared to your mocks, and what you did to obtain those grades.

My mock results:

English Lit- 6 (I was the most upset about this one. I cried for a good few hours. I WAS 1 MARK OFF A 7 TOO!)
English Lang- 9
Geography- 7
German- 7
Science- 6 (I do double. Got a 6 in all 3 sciences)
Maths- 5 (Never been good at Maths. My worst subject.)
Spanish- 6
Drama- 6
History- 6

I am not saying a 6 is "bad" btw.

EDIT: I completed my GCSEs and I ended up doing much better

English Lang- 8
Lit-9
Geography- 9
German- 8
Science- 9,8
Maths- 6
Spanish- 8
Drama- 9
History- 8

im so scared to im predicting to get all nines except maths I need to improve 2 grades
whats ur advice
I think in English u could easily improve
for language have u tried to use a pre-made creative writing or q5 on paper 2 memorise it and alter it slightly on the spot
honestly that the only thing I do for language and ive always got a nine
and for lit im sure ur gonna get higher in the real thing most ppl seem to anyways id probably suggest having good context and writers intentions linking with it as well as key terminology and good vocabulary u dont need to write much I wrote 2 and a half paragraphs for a Christmas carol and embedded the quotes from the extract and got a nine in both mocks
dont memorise too many quotes pick ones that are interchangeable according to the question that can link to any theme I use the same 3 for each book all the time

just for the new year 11s this year who may be looking for what some people got in their mocks compared to GCSE's... here's mine!

MOCKS
English Literature - 1 (predicted a 3) - AQA
English Language - 5 (predicted a 6) - AQA
Maths (Foundation) - 4 (predicted a 5) - Edexcel
Science (Combined) - 3-3 (predicted a 4-3) - AQA
History (Crime & Punishment; Policing in Whitechapel, Nazi + Weimer Germany, Cold War + Elizabeth I) - Edexcel
Religious Studies - U (predicted a 2) - AQA
Computer Science - 3 (predicted a 3) - OCR
Spanish (Foundation) - 2 (predicted a 3) - AQA

GCSEs (2024)
English Literature - 6 (5 marks off a 7!)
English Language - 9 (Genuinely so happy with this - this year, very few people - apparently - did better in Language than Lit. so i'm pleased with my result!)
Maths (Foundation) - 5
Science (Combined) - 5-5
History - 5 (originally was a 4, but I was 2 marks off a 5 and sent it back for remarks, came back to a 5)
Religious Studies - 6
Computer Science - 6
Spanish (Foundation) - 5

These grades aren't perfect across the board, like with some sets of grades i've seen on here. I'm not a "straight 9/8" student but I definitely used my mocks as a wake up call to lock in and revise as much content as I could with me being comfortable enough to get that work done. I wish all the new year 11's good luck for the upcoming year, it'll be a bumpy but hopefully successful ride!
Mocks:
english language : 6
English literature : 7
maths: 8 (1 mark into a 8)
biology:9
chemistry:9
physics:9
statistics( already done the gcse in year 10 ): 8
Further maths : 8
Dt: 7
computer science:7
Business:9

GCSE's
english language: 5 (don't know what happened here🤢, i am retaking it )
english literature : 8 ( 4 marks of 9)
maths : 9
chemistry:9
physics:9
biology:9
further maths:8
statitics:8
Dt:7
computer science:7
Business: 9

That Language result is excellent, particularly considering your previous mock grade. Please could you tell me what you did to receive that grade?

Honestly came extremely lucky with the grade boundaries this year - I think you needed 121 to get a 9, I got 122 😅 but I just did past papers and practised the creative writing section as Q5 (the creative writing section) is worth half of the paper (for both papers). Paper 2 was definitely a struggle for me but it somehow ended up being my best between the two but with a lot of revision in terms of writing your own short stories with prompts or just doing past papers can seriously make the difference. Hope this helps!

I've always loved to write in my own time and my English teacher did praise my creative writing throughout the year, that was probably the reason why I got such high marks! I looked back at my AQA certificate and it said the mark distribution was:
Paper 1: 59/80
Paper 2: 63/80
