dont worry, the 2nd p.s is a standard thing they ask everyone to do before interview.

my advice is to be yourself. the interview is for them to see if the applicant suits the bartlett style of teaching etc... its very casual and all about them getting to know you. i would say there isn't really anything you can do to make sure you get in, i felt like your either right for them or not. your portfolio is probably the most important thing because thats the easiest way for them to know what your about etc...
hope this helps.

my interview was in december and got in!

im really worried that theyll ask me about buildings i wont have heard of! obviously i am interested in the subject but its hard to have a 'complete knowledge of 20th century architecture' when its not a subject that can be studied at school and im not the daughter of an architect either so i am slightly lost.

what kind of things did they ask you?
did you just expand a bit more on your UCAS PS for UCL or write an entirely different one?
from my interview i did not get asked anything about buildings or architects. my interview was basically me showing, explaining my work, my inspirations, they were seeing whether i would fit in i think. it was like a chat, did not get 'quizzed' on what i know/don't know. i don't know that much. (not a daughter of an architect either).
probably each interview is quite different because its a chat so leads on from where it starts. i was a little surprised at how there was basically no architecture discussion but this could be different if the talking leads that way so.....
just incase i would just make sure you know 1/2 architects and buildings you like.

about the 2nd p.s....i couldn't really remember what i had written on the ucas ps and i kept it that way so i just wrote a new one mostly writing what they asked for on the piece of paper?

in my iterview, the professor didn't ask me any architecture related question and told me that do not read into it, because you are not going to do any thing related to design buildings, it's good to know just any design process of any thing, dresses, furniture and things, to my understanding it's more about you, the personality rather then how much you know.

only my opinoins.

is there any chance of them changing their minds after you send the second personal statement? (despite asking you come for an interview)...lets assume you mess it up or something. hmm!
if you mean cancelling the interview after they read your 2nd p.s then i doubt it, but if they really really didnt like it then who knows!...seeing your portfolio is v important so probably not. they would not have had the chance to do that with me because i only had 4 days between being told and interview. my p.s would have arrived with them the day before my interview so....

if you mean changing their minds about you because of the 2nd p.s after interview then i really don't know. guessing it would all depend on how much they want you and your work or the 2nd p.s may not matter at all!?

yea it would be pretty awkward to cancel the interview after the second p.s, lol, and a huge ego-killer! hmm, thanks for the help.

did you actually bring IN the 3D work, or did you take photos of them instead? i was planing to make models and clay sculptures etc... and then take photos of them.

also, were you're 3D pieces technical stuff (ie:structural architectural models) or were they artistic stuff (ie: sculpted hand, or such)

anyway thanks for the advice, gonna start planing more 3Ds to make!

For my current project I'm focusing on the contrasting styles between the works of Rachel Whiteread, who focuses on inverted/negative space, and Rebecca Horn (quite an odd character) with her kinetic sculptures/inventions and installations involving sound. I've done loads of sculptures and casts in plaster, clay, will be doing concrete soon.

I got a february interview but wasn't asked to submit a second PS??

I left my little pictures thing until the last minute as I had a portfolio to do for Manchester and I sent them to the wrong address.

I thought I'd had it but was very surprised to get an interview means they liked them.

Looks like sketchbooks are the way forward!!

Best start doing some extra work. :eek3:

Also what were the typical offers from those who got offers??

You should receive a letter within the next few weeks, in it they will ask for a second statement.

haha, that was back in January 2008. :p: Was AQA fine art, the 'personal study' module.

I love Rebecca Horn's work.
Hi, got an interview at UCL soon and got a decent portfolio put together but don't have any 3D work cos we just aint really done any at school..how damaging do you think it will be to my application? ..is it absolutely essential to have 3D work to get into UCL architecture course?

Oh my god I see a Chinese guy saying something here! Did you get a place???I'm going to interview two days later but I'm so nervous and I'm really not confident about myself and my portfolio! I don't know much about architects and architecture...actually in some way I can say I don't know those things at all! You said we wouldn't do anything related to designing buildings??Really???!!!

Just wondering, what did you put in your portfolio? Was it an a level art project or something, or did you just show them a bunch of random varied pieces that you did outside of school?
My interview was just chill, since I had a lot of works to show, I felt the time go past extremely quickly. The professor: Murray Fraser was such a nice guy, he seems to be an easily amused person :3. He was actually playing and making sound effects with one of my sculptures!

In terms of portfolio, they want to see the process of your work. Explain to them how your work is developed. For example in A-level Art, you might have a few studies which lead on to your final art piece. Tell them your thoughts, or they will ask you about it anyway. Most important thing is...be yourself, because they chose students who are suitable for the course. If you don't be yourself, you will most likely to drop out. 1/9 of my year already dropped out, I am a current year 1 student at the Bartlett xx
