The deadline is on the horizon, so I'm in the midst of nitpicking my statement.

I was wondering if it would be ok to mention that I'm keen to study Hindu nationalism in the state of Gujarat, India because it's closely connected with my community and diasporic identity? Or should I only detail purely academic reasons? I mean it's very true, but is it kind of an eye rolling thing to say? I'm probably just overthinking at this point


Academic reasons should be your focus. You can mention a personal connection though keep it brief (1-2 lines at most).
