Hello, so I’m a tad bit confused. I won’t be able to get a student loan till my second year of uni because I was not in the country for 3 Years. I decided to pay for my first year of uni on my own but I’m wondering if I can apply for student finance for the remaining years?

    Hi Rae,

To be eligible for Student Finance, you must be resident in the UK for the 3 years prior to the first day of the first academic year of the course. This means if you would be going into second year, you'd be required to have been resident in the UK for the 3 years prior to the first year of the course so you wouldn't be eligible for Student Finance.

If you were starting a new course, We'd then take your residency for the 3 years prior to the first day of the first academic year of the new course.

    I hope this information helps.

    Kind regards,

    John.
