Hi, I'm a year 10 student currently taking psychology and Business AS (my school has a weird policy allowing students who do well in KS3 to take an AS alongside GCSEs) as their GCSE choice subjects. I highly regret taking Business and now wish I had chosen sociology. I want to become a social worker and I would like to take Psychology, Maths, Biology and Sociology when I start six-form. Will it be possible to do sociology without the GCSE?

Yes. Most people who do A Level sociology didn't do it at GCSE as most schools don't offer it so you'll be fine. I didn't do GCSE Sociology but I'm doing A Level Sociology

Tuxford Post 16 definitely allows A level Sociology without the gcse (this year at least). They ask for 5s in maths, english and humanities but they are open to lower grades if you have a good social science grade, including your psychology gcse. You should check the websites of colleges/post 16s/schools you're interested in and/or ask their staff if you can attend an open day or contact them.

Of course - the vast majority of schools probably don't even offer sociology GCSE, so most A level students will not have done it.

If you stay at the school you are currently at for sixth form, then some of your peers doing the A level might have a bit of a head start having done the GCSE, but I'm sure that if you get the GCSE textbook and go through it over the summer, that you wouldn't be at all disadvantaged.

Yup. My school didn't offer Sociology or Psychology GCSE yet it's okay for us to take it if we want.
