Hi I'm stuck on a practice paper. Does anyone know why cells lining the human intestine complete the cell cycle in a relatively short amount of time? 😀

Think about what the duration of the cell cycle would suggest about the frequency of division of these cells. Why might this be necessary?

It's probably because they are constantly injured and worn out while digesting food, they need to be regenerated often which keeps your digestive system going. So mitosis will be relatively fast also, hope this helps!

...It was actually a different question aimed at helping you get to the answer yourself, so that you understand it better

For future reference TSR has a search function and the exact answer can be found here

They need to replace lost cells constantly as they will have a high rate of attrition.
