It would help if you said which model of calculator you use?

Or you could use the formula... (xxˉ)(yyˉ)(xxˉ)2(yyˉ)2\displaystyle \frac{\sum (x - \bar{x})(y - \bar{y})}{\sqrt{\sum (x - \bar{x})^2 \sum (y - \bar{y})^2}}

I knw the calculator can do it all for you I just cant remember how...
you are still best off filling the formula in... to check you get the same answer, and in case the answer you get is wrong, so you get some method marks.

I've got the fx-991MS, which is a couple of models up, but I think it should work in the same way:
1. Click the MODE button until you see REG on the screen, and select it. (For me, I have to press MODE twice and then 2 to select REG)
2. Enter the co-ordinates of your points by typing the x co-ordinate, then the comma, then the y co-ordinate, then M+. Repeat for however many points.
3. Press shift, and then S-VAR (it's the 2 key on my calculator)
4. Use the arrow keys to scroll right until you see r, and select this (it's on the third screen for me, and I have to press 3 to select it)
5. Press =.

Done!

Never use this on an exam. Even if you get the right answer, you won't get any of the method marks. I use it as a way of checking that I've used the formula correctly, but I always write out my full working.

I don't think this is true. According to our teacher and the mark schemes you will receive full credit for a full answer, however, obviously if you make a mistake in inputting the data then you will get zero.

You definately don't get full marks for just the answer in Edexcel GCE (A level) modules. Though I remember back in the good ol' days, we were always told you did on GCSE's - so if this is part of GCSE Stats? (I wouldn't know - didn;t do GCSE stats!!)
I would doubt it very much if any A level board gave full marks for the answer alone - what board are you on Pulkpull?

OCR MEI. I might be getting confused with working out standard deviation on the calculator. In fact I think that's probably right..
