At what age did you start thinking about the job you want to pursue?

When I was younger (maybe Year 7 or 8) I used to say Im gonna be a lawyer or financial analyst just cause. I actually had no idea what the latter meant...just thought it sounded cool. In Year 12 when it was time to register for Uni i didn;'t even know what I wanted to apply for. I was lost and had no clue what I really liked. I decided on Management just cause I was already studying business at A Levels. In the second semester of my first year at Uni...I decided to take up a psychology course and that's when I decided to minor in it and that I loved Psych more than my actual major - Management.

I'm in year 3 now....still not too fond of my major but at least I know what I wanna do now. I intend to get into the banking industry after graduating. And then maybe after a year of that...I plan on starting my MSc in International Relations. It's a field I really am interested in and will like this to be my future career. I hope to do humanitarian work working for the UN or World Bank.
I didn't figure all this out till like maybe a year ago...and I'm 21. SO don;t feel pressured because for some of us...we're sill growing as people and exploring and it's completely fine to be lost.

Same here.
My career hasn't turned out the way I'd originally planned but that's when I started thinking seriously about stuff.
I did have plenty of unsatisfactory career ideas before then though, e.g. singer, author etc.

What do you do now?

I work in a warehouse.
My job is basically in the despatch office, dealing with all the drivers when they come in. I quite enjoy it.

I see, that's interesting, and good that you enjoy it

You do get the odd days where it is crazy. And the odd driver who tests your patience. But on the whole, its good.
I was 19 when I realised that Psychology was the general area that I wanted to study and try to pursue some sort of career in. I'd have probably been 20 when I realised I was more interested in the Neuroscience aspect and I now want to do an MSc (or MRes) to specialise and see where it takes me.

Started thinking about it when I was 12/13. Decided I wanted to do clinical psychology when I was 14. Decided on specialism when I was 17.

Haha I've had a couple of part time jobs in retail (both of which were around Christmas) so I know what you mean about crazy days and people who test your patience!

Do you think you were too young to be worrying about it at that time, or should you have had planned it out earlier?

From as early as 11 I was stressing about what I wanted to do but it hit be in year 8 when we studied Volcanoes and I realised I wanted to do this for the rest of my life and have based all my options etc. around it. Sometimes it just hits you but keep your options always open
Started thinking about it when I realised I f***ing hate my university course.

What are you doing at uni?
And how come you dont like it?
Still haven't though about it. I'm at university now...
At the age of 14
It’s funny.

I changed my mind so much whilst I was in school:,I wanted to be a nurse, then a doctor, then an animator, then a writer...I knew I was quite politically inclined, a fierce debater and reasonably empathetic. I just didn’t know how to apply those aspects.

I decided on social work at 23. Recently went through my old progress folder from year 11 and apparently I was looking forward to pursuing a degree in social work. It was one of many choices so didn’t think much of it, but I’m kinda glad it was the one that came back.

Does it take a while? Yeah I think so. And you have to remember that many people change career several times in their lifetime.

Oh god, I can imagine that must've been rough at times, especially when the bars were closing!

Luckily our store closed at 11 (our store was next to a street fulll of residents, and a school at the other end of the road) so we were never allowed to be open after 11 anyway. And our store wasnt in a town centre either. So luckily there wasnt too much trouble with clubs closing. But the job had its fair share of moments. The people i worked with (well most of them) were great though.

Ah that is lucky! Although I can imagine a McDonald's after school being just as bad as (if not worse than) when the clubs close
14. Year 10 work experience.
