Hi, I'm in Year 12, I want to Biomed and wanted to know what kind of things people put in there a personal statement or extra things they did or would do to get a place?! Or if someone could help me with a personal statement/ just some general advice on where to apply and what the course is like?!

WOULD BE MUCHOS APPRECIATED!!!

I got it at a hospital when I originally wanted to do medicine.
1) Get a list of hospitals that are in a x-mile radius you are willing to travel.
2) Email every single hospital's consultants with your CV and a cover on why you want work experience, BE POLITE!
3) Follow up on any that respond.
That's how I got work experience.

Hey I’m also in yr 12 and have applied for work experience in my local hospitals pathology lab The whole process is very easy and many people in biomedical are happy to have young people interested but that was just my experience,it might differ if you are in a different region
Hi @susysusy123,

Great to hear that you are considering studying Biomedical Science. I am currently in my final year at the University of Sheffield studying the same course. Personal statements can definitely feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to knowing where to start. I would recommend being as authentic as possible and explaining what draws you to the field of Biomedical Science. Are there any aspects that particularly interest you? Is there anything you've previously learnt that's driven you to want to study the course? If possible, work experience can also help you stand out, so it would definitely be worth exploring any opportunities available that you could participate in. Additionally, any experiences that set you apart, such as volunteering, hobbies, or extracurricular activities, are also great to include.

I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Biomedical Science as it's a broad subject that enables you to experience many aspects of science and discover which particular area you find most interesting and thrive in, as well as the numerous future career options. I will include a link to the undergraduate BSc Biomedical Science course at the University of Sheffield. I would highly recommend reviewing available course modules to determine if it's something you would enjoy studying.

Best of luck with your personal statement! 😊
