Watford have sacked manager Marco Silva, blaming Everton's approach for the Portuguese in November as the "catalyst for this decision".
The Hornets have won one of their last 11 top-flight games and are 10th in the Premier League.

A Watford statement said they were "convinced the appointment of Silva" last summer "was the right one".

And, without "the unwarranted approach" they would have "continued to prosper under his leadership".

The statement added: "This has been a difficult decision and one not taken lightly.

"The catalyst for this decision is that unwarranted approach, something which the board believes has seen a significant deterioration in both focus and results to the point where the long-term future of Watford has been jeopardised."

The Hornets were beaten 2-0 by Leicester City on Saturday to leave them five points above the relegation zone.

Prior to Everton's approach for Silva, Watford had won four, drawn three and lost four from 11 league games.

Since then the Vicarage Road club has won three, drawn two and lost eight of 13 top-flight outings.

Funny considering they refused to let him leave and now have sacked.

Maybe we need a sacked manager thread for next season?

Never known so many sackings in a season. It's ridiculous.

Pellegrino will be sacked by Southampton soon too.

anyway, on topic: to blame Everton's approach for poor form after said approach just smacks of lazy board management to me

It must show how desperate everyone is to surviving and doing well in the premier league as I can’t remember this many sackings in one season at all. But given Watford approach to manager rotation and sacking, can’t say this is surprising tbh.

Watford were playing really well and now they’ve lost a decent manager. Reckon Southampton might get him?

Thanks for fixing!

I guess it's also in part because so many teams are going through bad spells and this season is so close? Anyone from 9th downwards looked like they could've been relegated at some point or other. Then you see some clubs having the new manager bounce so other clubs are more tempted to change.

One bad run and they sack the manager poor poor decision, deserve to go down for it now, reckon if Southampton do get rid of their manager Silva will end up there.

The problem is every game against top 6 is now a write off. That's 12 out of 38 games, almost 1/3 of the season where you've got little chance of taking any points and your GD could get battered. Only once has a side in the bottom 6 beaten a top 6 side this season, and even that was only because Arsenal had a legitimate goal disallowed. It puts a lot more pressure on to get results in the remaining games.

The PL is going to have to increase the money going to the lower leagues so the effect of relegation is lessened. Otherwise you're going in to every season with 14 teams just hoping to get 40 points and stay up. It's bad for the league.

Why? They've been dreadful since the Everton approach, everything they did right theu aren' doing anymore.

Seems that the players/management team have been distracted and can' get the club focused again. What with the PL being such a **** show below the top 6 clubs can' really afford to carry dead weight.

Totally deserved sacking.

He’s been unlucky with injuries though. Watford have had the most this season.

Are Watford sponsored by UKIP, as they change their managers about as often as UKIP change their leader?

Watford have appointed Javi Garcia. I wonder how long this sacking had been planned for.

Strong quote game.

I remember Javi Garcia scoring for Benfica against Chelsea in the champions league quarter final in 2012.

We won it that year.

And the Watford hierarchy clearly felt he wasn't capable of turning around that run of form. Perfectly reasonable to sack him.

Lots of fans get very sanctimonious about sacking managers, except when it comes to their own club of course because being top of football ******** morality ladder is meaningless when you lose everywhere and get relegated.

I still maintain there is no loyalty these days in football, you only gotta look at other clubs who stick by their managers and they soon overcome the bad run.
