Genomics counselling NHS STP application 2018

Wondering how you’re getting on with STP applications? All the things are happening at the moment (in a good way - moving house and new job), and wanted to know how everyone else is finding the application process.

Hi! Just started, seems to be taking ages =) I guess I'll finish it over the next few days. How about you?

Doing mine too - its really annoying that you cant do the rest of the application form til you've sorted the reference out first

what kind of experience does everyone have?

I'm a bit scared in that regard, I've got a lot of scientific/leadership experience but not any in counselling or working with patients so I'm worried about whether that's going to be a big problem
sorry I would like to learn whether we need to upload our degrees from the document upload section. This is a stupid question but I am not sure.

I don't think we need to at this stage? Anyhow there's an applicant guide that has all the info, you can check there!

I checked there and nothing was mentioned.thank you
Hi everyone!

I am considering applying for the STP in genomic counselling next year, however, I am worried that my background is not the most suitable for the programme. I have a 1st in Psychology BSc from UCL and have taken a module in behavioural genetics, however, I only have psychology related research experience as research assistant during my undergraduate studies. I know that in the eligibility criteria it is mentioned that Psychology degrees with some training in genetics would be considered but that does not seem to be the typical profile of applicants. I am currently working in the NHS as trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner so I would meet the criteria for the experience in counselling but I was wondering if there's actually a chance of me getting on the course with a Psychology degree?

Does anyone know if you can practice the online tests and then exit without having to immediately do the real test??

Hey, I have also applied with a psychology degree. If I remember correctly, you can apply with a psychology degree if you have a background in genetics, which includes having undertaken genetics related modules as part of your degree. What makes you think you don't have a chance of getting on the course?
Hi everyone! My application status has changed to longlisted, does this mean I’ve passed the online tests?

Does anyone know if we'll have to do the specialism twice at the interview, having applied for two subjects. Will it be one question that could cover both, or will they pick one of the two? Anyone who has had an interview before?

From reading the threads, I think if u get an interview for both specialisms you will have two separate interviews

Does anyone know what kind of specialism questions we can expect for the Genomics Counselling station?
How is everyone feeling?
I am interested in the STP and met a genetic counseller who said that Sheffield's MSc in Genomic Medicine course offers intro to counselling modules that will help an application to STP.

Bit impatient!!!!!!!
Has anyone heard anything yet? Do you think we will hear at the same time?
Genomic counselling- unsuccessful! Didn’t expect to get an interview and surprised I even got through the online tests! Bit annoying seeing as I graduated a few years ago and have been working in the NHS for 3 years, don’t understand how it works! Good luck to everyone who got interviews
