Cancelled car insurance

My insurance company has told me they will be cancelling my insurance policy in 9 days because i missed my appointment for my black box being fitted and now the 14 day period is up, what i want to know is can i ring them up and tell them i want to cancel my policy today, and if i do so will i now be able to say i have not had insurance cancelled on me before,
Thanks

I have moved this into the Cars & Motoring section.

Your cooling off-period will be up too, call them up and somewhat beg for another chance to get the box installed. They can facilitate this - they just aren't obliged to.

There's also differing opinions on the rest. I work for a "well-known" UK Airline (wouldn't take a genius to figure out which), we have a few people who work in finance roles here with differing backgrounds, one of them has worked as both a broker and an underwriter. He advised that once notice of cancellation is issued, this goes on your report, followed by the actual cancellation once the policy ends. The first step is enough to have you declare that an insurer has cancelled your policy before.

On the other end of the spectrum and someone else's opinion; one cannot simply cancel an inactive policy (however I've then argued the case your policy is still active, but your cover is suspended), which is what yours will become should you end your cover early. Either way, it cannot hurt to ask and costs nothing (maybe the price of your phone call). I am of the opinion however, that you're royally screwed.

How to get more information without breaking DPA is another matter entirely (as to see exactly what it's like and what the effects are, I'd need to have a real look at someone's MID notes; and that is obviously illegal). But it's best to call an insurance specialist and ask for advice. From the two months I've been here, I don't think we've got an actual specialist that posts in this section; would be nice if we did. But all we can really go of is past experiences and what others with little know-how have said.

Let us know how it goes - would be useful info for later.

You need to call them up. Also, be prepared to have a good reason for why you didn't fit the box.
