P and S waves - earthquakes

My teacher has given me a booklet of past paper questions to do with seismic waves but there is one question in it I have no clue. It is ‘why do S waves arrive later than P waves’ I know it sounds like such a simple question but my brain can’t think of an answer!
P waves travel faster through the earth than S waves. If you need any more info hopefully someone else can answer.
