Hi I’m doing this spec also! I’m doing language, poetry literature (alcestis) and prose literature (solon and croesus). Not a lot of people do it unfortunately

Honestly at this rate I’m so ready to fail regardless of the fact that I’m currently doing vocab revision. For the set text bit maybe try the cover test check method to make sure you know the English inside out (that’s how I learnt it for mocks and I got an 8) and then colour code the text with certain literary techniques.
Either way, good luck. May we all pass (with some sanity left).

I am also doing the new 9-1 GCSE Classical Greek exams in the Summer. I go to an independent school but Greek is non-timetable so I have to loads of independent work. I am doing option B which includes Prose Literature A and Verse Literature A (Herodotus and Odyssey Book VI). I have been getting 95%-100% in all the past papers but I find the newer language exam harder, getting 82% and 88%. I was wondering how you would all prepare for the Literature exams as the specimen papers are not for our texts? I am aiming for a 9 which will most likely be between 86-90% as an A* used to be around ~83% and the new papers are harder.

Hi, I am also doing the Odysseus and Herodotus for literature. If you look at the June 2010 Verse Text it is the same as this year's text and questions are really useful. I am worried for the 10 mark questions and how to achieve full marks on them. It would be interesting to see how you guys approach these. I am also aiming for a 9 but the language unseen translation seems quite tricky and worth half the marks of the total paper. How are you preparing for these? KR

Hi wbanner2001, I too have used the Taylor book and the specimen papers, but it is helpful to know the translations are similar to the old Language 2 papers. In addition, I am learning the principal parts for the verbs. Is that worthwhile my time? Would it also be possible to send the link to your defined vocab lists on quizlet/memrise?
On the 2010 verse paper, the final question is 'What makes Homer such a good story-teller in Book VI?'. What five point would you make on this question?
Cheers

+ https://quizlet.com/283464404/classi...9-flash-cards/ for memorising the set texts for the 5-mark translation extract. This one will be completed soon.

Memrise: I created this mainly for future generations as I have used the existing courses myself, but: https://www.memrise.com/course/18974...ed-vocabulary/ (I presume you have already learnt the vocabulary well so Quizlet might be more time efficient in your case.)
I think learning the definite article and active verb endings are essential, but passives you should just be able to recognise and middles aren't too important at all.
Thank you very much for the ten-mark question. Would you mind if I got back to you on this one?
Thanks for all.

Hi again T3J and all, I have discovered that in the supplementary Greek to GCSE: Reader book contains samples of 50-mark translation passages in Section 3 so if you want more practice on that then that is worth doing. On Memrise I have also made a specialist Greek prepositions and their cases course as you need to know that for the grammar Q (I heard only about 50 people in the entire country normally choose prose composition for Greek.) I will look at the Odyssey 10-Marker and qlso the practice paper you recommended to me. WB
