You can study marine biology at Portsmouth University and other good universities if you do well enough (typically DMM) in BTEC qualifications at college (from a single Extended Diploma or from a combination with other qualifications)

Whether you could find a career in marine biology without going to university will depend on what job/apprenticeship opportunities you can find when you complete your BTEC. It's a while since I've been to Burnley but I don't remember it being close to the sea so local opportunities might be hard to find. If you widen your interest you will find lots of environmental science opportunities are available to suitable candidates.
