The housing list comes out in march and there are usually events like housing talks going on that week, but you do have to do most of the organising yourself.

oh ok, thanks, but a lot of people have already started looking for a place :s-smilie:

Me and my housemates found a place in the September before term began. Try not to panic too much, or put stress on your friends, as - if not handled properly - the whole househunting process can put a lot of stress on friendships and social stuff.

And, at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter who you live with, as long as you've got a place where you feel comfortable. In the second and third years, it's a lot more about hanging out round other peoples houses, or going down the pub.

The year in halls is a bit of a one-off.

Housing talks now listed at www.ussu.info/events

Home Leasing are bad news as agents. Stay well away... If you can get a house directly with a landlord through the uni housing list, you can save yourself a lot of hassle and money.

Agents generally... bad news - they know how to rip students off.

What would you say is the maximum number of people it would be possible to live with next year? There's quite a big group that I'm considering living with but I don't know if it would be possible for us to all find a house together.

7 is the highest number of people I know of, although you might be able to get houses for 8 or more.

My boyfriend lived with 8 a couple of years ago and it was way too many, the house gets really dirty and you usually end up with 2 separate groups forming. I'd say the optimum number is 4-6.

Homelets = conmen

Never known anything like it. Avoid like the plague

Exception: if his name is Philip Hilliard.

Am I allowed to say that?

Yep, heard the name before, told to stay clear of the bow-legged one.

Haha really?

The guy is a nightmare...Our house was alright but he was so anal about us doing *anything* to it - he used to get all pissy and threaten to tell our parents (wtf, I'm paying the rent?) if we so much as moved the furniture.

Also, one day, he put a new chest of drawers in my room without having told me and transferred all my underwear from the old one to the new one...It kind of creeped me out

Okay, thank you both.

That plan has fallen through now anyway so I guess I don't have to worry about it.

I am starting to get so stressed about who I'm going to live with next year. It's hard when you don't have one set friendship group because all the friendships groups you are part of seem to assume you'll be living with someone else :s-smilie: I feel like I keep falling between the net.

I think so. It's to do with the gas I think? So better safe than sorry...

Unless it doesn't have gas.
