Hi guys! My post is about some issues I am having with my subject choices and am looking for some advice from anyone?

I am in year 12, towards the middle of AS year (except we do not do AS level) and I am taking 4 subjects: spanish, history, maths, art. I am planning applying for architecture, and at the end of this year am aiming for at an A* and 2 As. The problem i have is that I did not do art for GCSE, and in order to get As I am having to use up so much time for art, so my grades in my other subjectsare suffering. The logical solution would be to drop it, but I am being advised against it because of the course i want to apply for.

Is there anyone else who is doing art A level, who hasn't done it for GCSE and is having similar issues? Anyone have any advice on which subject I should drop?

Art based subjects are an awful lot of work regardless of whether you took it for GCSE or not. I did it at GCSE but didn't for A Level, and even as a GCSE subject it took up about 8 hours of my week alongside other GCSEs, which at a level where extra work is not normally needed was madness. So I knew that if I was putting in so much at GCSE it would be even more at A level. I have friends who took Art GCSE who find the workload intense at A level. It's just how it works. Drop the subject you need the least, which I guess is either Spanish or History. Whichever one of these is harder and suffering the most I suggest you drop.

I had a similar problem when I was doing my A-Levels - I didn't realise how intense A-Level Art would be (I hadn't taken it previously either). I suggest you have a look at the requirements for unis you'd be interested in applying to and see if they require art as a full A-Level, then make a decision from there. If you need art, I suggest dropping history or spanish (that's what I would do) - whichever you're least enjoying/finding the most difficult.
