Aqua are the cheapest.... the ones by the statiion are a complete rip off

Well yeah, any cabs that you get straight from a rank cost megabucks. But even aqua are pricey compared to the ones I've ridden in in other towns/cities.
I definitely wouldn't say they were cheap

Actually Citywide are the cheapest.

Any taxi that you phone and pre-order are going to be far cheaper than getting in a Hackney cab (i.e. one you hail down)

Really? :s-smilie:
Jeez, what taxis do you guys use? Gold plated bullet proof ones? They are only pricey at night, when the driver knows your drunkard self will pay anything.

Just aqua, elite etc. Not any ranked ones. I'm not the only person who thinks it either

That's probably because your drunkard self just pays it.

If a driver suddenly started charging me more than a £1 more than it usually costs, I'd query it. BTW - I haven't noticed *that* much of a difference in pricing between day and night with some firms. Granted it is a bit different but not massively
Iv found taxi's cheaper in Portsmouth than most places, try getting one in Woking, they cost a lot. Although when I first started back in the day (2003) the taxis were noticeably cheaper, it was £3.50 form langstone to gunwharf with aqua.. they were the days........
Ermm...friday night my mate got headbutted by a stranger outside liquid, cause he didn't have a spare cigarette. Police ran him down and he must be regretting that now.

Well why not just ask them beforehand? I often make the same journeys and always ask how much it's likely to be and they always say around the same price as I paid last time.

One time a driver from Aqua went the wrong way - took a wrong turning and consequently added a couple of mins to my journey. Without even realising he had he pointed it out and said he would knock the money off what it was on his meter.

so true...
Portsmouth is not rough my dad is a sailor and when ever i have gone to visit him we have had no trouble and i have been going down frequently for over 11 years, i have even been drinking with his sailor buddys and we have not once had a fight with anyone if anything everyone is to wasted to care and we just have a right laugh the only area i would say to avoid is rowner estate in gosport but other than that portsmouth is just the same as all the other towns and citys around the UK so dont worry your mum is wrong im right so ha the only trouble ive seen is youths trying to be hard and getting there ass's handed to them on a plate

I Think portsmouth is fine, if you know the right people that is!, leigh park is not a part of portsmouth, its part of havant, and clarence peir is extremely quiet at night, the one place you have to worry about is paulsgrove. and hilsea, just because of the barbarians who live their, there is an increase of heroin addictions in portsmouth and drugs are becoming a higher percentage each day... but other than that, if you dont get mugged and constantly carry around a rape alarm then you should be fine!!!

I have lived in portsmouth since I was 8, I've never felt worried for my safety at all, never had any problems with sailors, but it's just a general ****hole, could not stand the thought of going to uni here haha.
Every city has rough parts but it's not bad at all if you know where to avoid.

I think the people are a bit chavy but i dont think its a violent place. Maybe the odd fight here and there but unlike manchester, liverpool, london you are not likely to get stabbed or shot.
