What’s the difference between a mark and a grade in BTEC units?

For example: I got overall D (Distinction) in my medical physics unit. But got a mark of 9 (I think it’s out of 10). What does this mean?

If I got D in every unit would I still get D*D*D* in my course is I don’t get 10/10 marks for every unit?

If there are no D* in individual grades, then yes if you got D in all 18 modules, then you would have a D*D*D* award. All the marks are aggregated and then depending where on the scale you come, then you get a grade from D*D*D* down to PPP.

Its not out of 10:
Pass = 7
Merit = 8
Distinction = 9

This gets multiplied by the credits that particular unit is worth e.g a 10 credit unit at Distinction would give you 90.

All unit grades get added together for your final grade for example:

For the extended diploma if all of your 180 credits added up to 1500 you'd get DDD
