For the 15 mark question, my teacher recommended the "ISONIC" structure, where you give an introduction that summarises the question, then explain what some religious people would say in response to the statement, then what other religious people would say, then what non-religious people would say (if necessary), then give your own opinion and a conclusion, using sources of authority throughout.

I find this structure effective, but not everyone likes it.

For the 5 mark question, I would only write 1 developed paragraph, with 3 distinct reasons and sources of authority, which should give you full marks.

Hope that helps, seeing as I'm also having to endure this God awful RS course.

Thank you so much! That was super helpful!

I'm glad my school is not the only one who makes this dredging subject compulsory.

We've been taught KISS JO-

Sources of Authority
Specialist Key Words
Judgement

It's good but I can never nail it. Which religions are you focusing on btw?

I have to do Christianity and Judaism. There's so much content and key terminology to learn, and people say RS is easy! Also the Issues of.. stuff is so boring with so many case studies

I also do the Route B Christianity and Judaism. Hate that it's compulsory, the most boring and irrelevant subject I have to endure.

My school have been trying to get us to do KISSJO in our RE essays now, but I don't understand the difference between Judgement and Other views (although we've been taught that it is overall opinion). Can you explain it?

Yeah! Sorry for the late reply but basically...

Other views:

so that's the two other religions that you're taking (for me its Christianity and Judaism). You'll want to show the examiner you have an understanding as to how these religions would react or their attitudes to the question/statement.

Judgement:

This is different from your "other views" because here you are EVALUATING. Now simply put that just means you're going to add a couple of sentences to the end of each paragraph summing up whether what you've just said is a strong piece of evidence (or weak!) to support or go against the statement. This applies to the 15 mark questions where you will get a statement. Judgement can also be your personal opinion in relation to the question and whether you disagree or agree with the statement. It's better to talk to about other religions and explain WHY they would disagree/agree and whether the evidence you've said justifies that.

Sorry for repeating myself a lot but I hope you get the gist!

Good luck on May 14TH we'll be sat at the same time doing the same paper so hopefully we both do well!
