Thanks for the menu!

I wanted to buy a meal card cause i don't like cooking for myself. but as a pg student, would i be allowed to eat at the catering halls? or just the other outlets around the university?

if i can't eat in the halls, are hot meals available in the other placeswhen i buy a meal card? or just sandwiches and that kind of thing?

There are hot meals available at the Portland Building food court, the orangery in Science city, the hospitals and the atrium on Jubilee. So yeah you should be ok.

I don't think you can buy the mealcards (correct me if I'm wrong) - you only get them from being resident in a catered hall.

Thanks BrenLee! I assume then that i will not be allowed to eat at the catered halls.

Alex, i read on the brochure that i could buy a meal plan while living in non-catered halls...i suppose it's a differente meal plan that would let me eat at the other outlets.

I don't know if its changed since I was keeping it ticking over but you could buy the catering card for lunch time meals only. It saves you about 50p a day or something.

You'll really need to check with the catering office these days.

I read something about purchasing a meal card too... you don't just get given one.

fair enough then, perhaps they're changing it for next year, but that's certainly not how it's happened in the past.

Meal cards are given to any students staying in catered halls as standard but those living in self-catered accommodation can buy a meal plan which will give them a meal card for lunch times.

It's been this way since the meal card (now in it's 2nd year) was introduced but there were only about 3 people who bought the meal plan in year one of the scheme so this is probably why its not well known.

Prior to the meal card plan it wasn't possible to get these meal deals at all.

Yeah, I didn't know you could buy those meal plans either! So, do they go to the Catering office then? My friend is in Redwoods at the moment, and I think he'd really like to get one! I'll tell him about it.

Yeah deffo, they IMO really screwed it up that 1st year. The amount of cards we had to replace was horrendous just because staff weren't trained up properly. After everyone washed their hands of it, I picked up the pieces and kept it going until the end of the year. I'm very happy to be rid of it though.

Yes, of course! You can pay cash at all the places in Portland Building!
