IGCSE and teachers

Hey everyone (Disclaimer: lengthy post)
I never thought I'd say this, but English Lang and Lit have become living nightmares. I genuinely like the subject, and honestly, I'm not bad at it. But I have an awful teacher- does anyone else hate that a teacher has the power to sour a class so much?
I have the same teacher for both, and she puts up with me just because I'm doing reasonably well- but in truth, she hates me. It's a two-way street- I really don't like her much (she's a bureaucrat!) Ordinarily, I wouldn't care much more being (dis)liked- I'm there to learn, not be her BFF- but I don't want her personal distaste for me to pull down my average. A low English grade is still ugly, even though I'm going to study physics and math later.
So I've been cashing in all the good-kid chips (being nice to her (without coming across as kissing up) attempting to be diligent) but it doesn't seem to be working well.
Any thoughts/insights/judgments? I'm sure that this is a common issue...
