LSE – PKU Double MSc Degree in International Affairs

Hi guys…hope all is well!

In the last week I have been offered a place to study an MSC in International Politics for this academic year 08/09. In addition, I am also in the process of applying for the LSE-PKU Double MSC programme.

I would really like to know if anyone else is in the same situation as myself i.e. have you been offered a place to study this MSC between PKU-LSE? Are there any students on this forum who are taking this MSC currently or have taken it in the past? I can’t seem to find any information regarding this course on the Student Room.

From the research which I have carried out to date, I am led to believe that politics is perhaps one of the weaker areas at SOAS, is this so?

I primarily want my focus to be on Chinese politics and how it affects the Asia-Pacific region and further a field in the UK/EU etc. Even though SOAS, as its name testifies, is a specialist in African and Asian studies, it seems to be the case that LSE offers more breadth and detail in relation to China (check out their modules on offer).

Any suggestions are testimonies as to the quality of these courses at SOAS/LSE would be greatly appreciated!!

I have been studying in Beida (PKU Peking University) for over one month on their semester long language course. I have to say, the atmosphere within the campus is second to none, what with the intellectual bunch of Chinese and International students. The food is really cheap also (70 pennies per dinner).

Now all I need to do is find someone on the exchange programme between Beida and LSE!!! Any offers?

Apparently this year's course has been capped (once again) at 25 places.

Has anyone heard back from LSE/PKU?

What are your chances of being accepted if you are currently on the waiting list?

Is anyone considering refusing their offer?

Andante, you are also in the waiting list? When did they informed you? I was informed by LSE on 16 May that I am in the reserve list.

Yeah, I am on the same boat a yourself!! I concur, the waiting is a nightmare.

Has anyone accepted/declined their offer? How many places are up for grab?

Hi emperor....

How long will we have to wait 'till we know the score?

I think we have to wait for another 8 weeks before they decide on our 'fate'. Is the message u received same as mine...
"The course you applied for has reached its quota. Your application has been placed in a reserve group which will be re-considered should a place become available. You will be notified of a final decision by the 31st of July 2008 at the latest".
My friend told me that people on the waiting and reserve list received diffferent messages. Not so sure about that...cheers!!!
This course looks really interesting - fecking expensive though.....

So what do you choose eventually? I am quite interested in that program too. As I will be graduating soon, I am now in the midst of considering seriously about what master program I should apply.
