    Adaptations of xerophyte

An “Adaptation” is a characteristic or feature that helps the organism to survive.

For the Xerophyte (a type of cactus) it’s adaptations include:
    • Spikes- the spikes stop herbivores from eating them as they offer protection
    • Green colour- allows for photosynthesis (the chlorophyll is green and allows energy from the sun to be absorbed)
    • Varied shapes a sizes- maximise the amount of water stored (i.e. they can survive on very little water)

    Hope this helps :-)
