I don’t think anyone is a sheep!! I just know that I have very different opinions on the matter of alcohol and I wish I didn’t because it makes me feel very isolated and like I’m wierd.
Often I wish society had the same opinion as me, but doesn’t everyone at some point. I just want to feel normal.
I thought it was deemed 'normal' in society not to have a drink? Regardless of the peer pressure?

We don't need alcohol, we have Dijkstra and his algorithms to keep up company! :dumbells:
I had to google who that was, I’ve heard of the challenge of finding the shortest paths before but didn’t know there was an algorithm. I did a year at uni studying maths

When I said this was the apogee of self-indulgence, do you see what I mean? You're looking for conformity - but rather than you changing to be like everyone else, you want everyone else to be like you.

You don't like booze. Ok fair enough. You don't like the taste - that's fair too. But then you don't like how it affects people - and you don't like how "society" feels about it either.....

me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me

What you need is to get some friends and get the beers in. Get happy and stop being so miserable and self centered.

Right. Well I wouldn't know, considering I dont drink either but I thought it was a norm not to drink.

Clearly not considering uni does have a huge part to play in this too. (Freshers week and so forth).

I can only speak for myself. I have friends, they’re all out drinking. That’s why I’m here. Looking for people who feel like me so we can chat and make each other feel better.
I don’t know what you’re trying to achieve. And if I could help you I would.

What I mean is how normal it is for people to drink. How it’s become a part of life. How people assume everyone drinks, everywhere I go I’m offered alcohol and more people are suprised when I turn it away. I’ve seen alcohol given to miners without any kind of thought about it.
Even if other people around you offer alcohol to drink, no one forces you to drink it by yourself. You can still refuse. I did it when I was with people in a pub, and they accept.

You're the one that needs help. You want the whole world to change to be like you.

What possible conclusion are you going to come to in a non-drinkers group other than (1) Live and let live, or (2) we're a special group of enlightened people and everyone else is a low-life.

I'm going the pub in a bit and 50% of my mates don't sup and are under no pressure to do so. Literally nobody cares.

Hi. I’m 20 and absolutely hate alcohol, not just the taste, not just how it effects people. But also how society feels about it. If there’s anyone else who feels like this, I’d love to talk. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t drink or feel like I do and I’m starting to feel isolated.
I am 19, have never really drank just sips of wine to taste as a kid, can't really remember the taste. Some drugs related stuff that happened to my brother and that affect on my family has put me off drinking entirely to the point when people ask why I can't even tell them.
I enjoy going out with mates, won't leave before 3am and all the rest of it, if you saw me in a club you would probably not know. I am not openly against it but if I had the choice I would get rid.

I have seen peer pressure in terms of drinking thats why I mentioned it.

Though that is not the circumstances all the time. People choose what to do with their bodies. One cannot control another human physically. Hence 'peer pressure'.

Aye, it happens, but I question the regularity. Or the dirty looks when ordering a soft drink in a pub, come on now. half of this is down to the person not drinking's expected perception of themselves. i bet if they asked these people they'd just shrug.

I never said I wanted people to actually stop drinking.

Nobody can say that they didn’t wish for something in society to change.
I’m not against people who drink, all my friends drink. But sometimes yes, I’m selfish, I want to feel a little normal. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

I’m here to find people who already feel like me, not to change people’s opinions.

I love quizzes and board games. All my friends do and we play some great games all the time. It’s not “boring” like some may think.
