    Arteries have a thick muscular wall with elastic tissue. This allows them to expand and transport a large volume of blood under high pressure. The muscular walls helps them to move blood by peristalsis.

    Veins are also made from elastic tissue which gives them some flexibility to expand. They have one way valves inside to prevent the backflow of blood.

    Capillaries are only one cell thick which allows for rapid diffusion of molecuels into and out of surrounding cells and tissues. They are very fine which enables them to thread themselves between cells.
