My PGCE application is all done, except I haven't got any school experience and a second reference (which I hope to get from someone at the school)

I've been trying since December to get a word back from my local school about getting 10 days. 5 days ago I got an email saying it would be fine but they need more time to sort it out.

I'm worried that my application is being left way too long. If I end up submitting it in mid March time, will this be too late?

If you apply carefully you should be okay - avoid the super competitive places and see if SCITTs have places in particular. It also depends on your subject; if you’re applying for Physics there are plenty of spaces (and not enough teachers), whereas primary is a lot more competitive.

If you can get a couple of days experience prior to your application that would be beneficial. Then you can get the rest of your 10 days after you have accepted an offer.

    Good luck!
