Currently on a gap year - Need MAJOR Travel Help watch

    • Thread Starter

Hi people, basically I'm on a gap year currently with plans to go to uni in sept 2018. I've been working for the last few months trying to save up some money. So far I've saved up a fair amount ~£4k

So I want to go travelling on my own in the next couple of months, from say April to Late August. My initial plan was to go around South America, but I'm not so sure anymore. I just want to know the places I can go basically. Like typical student gap year routes.

Continents/Countries that interest me are: South America, Caribbean Islands (If it's possible to backpack around there), Cuba (really want to visit), Australia, New Zealand (Oceania in general), South-East Asia (Vietnam, Thailand & the like), Japan, Hong Kong & Canada.

Obviously I won't be able to visit all of these countries given my budget of £1000 a month (excluding flights). Also the limited time I have, I want to be able to experience each place well for a decent amount of time.

If anyone could give me any suggestions on where to start, typical routes, resources, where to stay, what to see, just everything as I'm pretty clueless. All ideas are welcome, I just really need some help & pointers. Also I'm quite time-constrained as I really need to book my flights soon before they get too expensive.

Thanks for reading, much love x
