Squealer is able to persuade the animals to believe in Animalism and also the corruption that comes with it particularly under the rule of Napoleon. There is a a repeated structure to Squealers function; 1. the animals become skeptical of corruption/ wrongdoings 2. squealer uses many persuasion techniques and sophisticated language to indoctrinate the less intelligent animals 3. the animals become resolute and stop questioning the corruption. This is repeated many times. It could be argued that Squealer is even more powerful than Napoleon, as without Squealer the animals would probably have worked out themselves how bad the corruption was

Squealer represents the Soviet state-controlled media. He is able to manipulate what is said, spread lies and even change history. There is also the occasional threat when he is challenged; he looks at the other animals menacingly and the tone of his voice changes. When he reads out the fake production figures it's a direct reference to Stalin, who printed wildly inaccurate production statistics in 'Pravda'.
