Main PC, yes.
Storage server, restart once a week for updates.
Render machine, never.
Never use sleep/standby.Last edited by 8472; 06-02-2018 at 19:15. -

I shut it down each night. LinusTechTips did a video about whether or not to shut down your PC vs sleep and there is some credit to both, it depends really.

I have not turned my main PC off since 2013. The only time it has ever been flicked off is for cleaning/upgrades.

Just get a decent SSD, boot your OS to it and then shut down every night.

Yes because I'll regularly be switching between different operating systems to get different work done. If I had space for a dedicated storage server that'd be staying on all the time for obvious reasons. But for the daily driver machines they get switched on whenever I need them and off when I'm done.

If you have a cheap or old SSD that you boot to then shutting down regularly can cause premature failure iirc (due to limited read/write cycles I think) but I wouldn't really think it's much of a cause for concern with newer ones or HDDs.
