I'm planning to move into a studio room for my first year of uni along with my partner, but the accomodation company (fresh student living) has stated that there is no extra charge when a second person stays in the room.
If my partner were to pay the rent for the accomodation, would i still be eligible for a maintinence loan that we both could share for everything else?

    Hi KillVMaim,

I just have a couple of questions in order to help you there.

    What age are you?
Are you and your partner married?

    Thank you,

    John.

    Hi!

I’ll be 18 when I start uni and move in and no we aren’t married.

    Thanks

    Hi KillVMaim,

Thanks very much for answering those questions.

You can definitely still apply for the income assessed maintenance loan. Your partner paying rent won't have any affect on it.

However, as you're under 25, the maintenance loan will still be based on your parents income (unless you meet any of the other independent student criteria, see here). You can have a look at the Student Finance Calculator to get an idea of how much you could receive.

    I hope this information helps.

    Kind regards,

    John.
