Hi I am a single mother of two children aged 2+ 7. I’ll be studying in Sheffield where I live studying adult nursing just wonder how much financial support I’d be entitled in terms of loans and also child tax credits and things like that , just worrying I won’t financially be able to survive when I start studying Thanks 🙏
Hi all
I’m currently a mature student and looking at starting uni in September.
I’m currently a single parent of three children so will be staying locally.
I’m just a little concerned as from further reading I believe if I am a full time student I will loose some of my income benefits as I can apply for the maintenance loan.
I currently receive income support and carer’s allowance and believe these will stop.
Does anyone know what I’ll be entitled too? I really did not want to take the maintenance loan out but I have a feeling I’m not going to have a choice.
Thanks for reading.

Hi, I’m EU citizen (Bulgarian), 36 year old;
Expected to start BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice in September 2018.
Previously lived in a non-EU country (UAE).
I am in the UK since Sep 2016;
Graduated from UK college in Sep 2017, Dental Nurse Level 3,
I’m single mother (widowed), both girls are under 18 years old, and I don't receive any benefits or housing.

Do I qualify for tuition and/or maintenance loan since my course is nursing-related?
Thank you.

Hi Chezza18

Thanks for your post.

As a new student, studying a full time Allied Health course in the 2018/19 AY, with dependent children, you would be eligible to apply for the following from SFE:

Tuition Fees - paid directly to your Uni in three instalments
Maintenance Loan (higher level as Lone Parent) - paid to you in three instalments
Parents Learning Allowance - paid to you in three instalments
Childcare Grant - again paid in three instalments

** Your childcare provider must be registered with an approved body such as OFSTED.
** You cannot claim the Childcare Element of Working Tax Credits AND the Childcare Grant from Student Finance at the same time.
** Student Finance England will provide up to 85% of childcare costs whereas HM Revenue and Customs will provide up to 70%.

All applications are assessed on an individual basis.

You can download your 2018/19 Childcare Grant Application form using the link below which also has more information relating to the Childcare Grant. https://www.gov.uk/childcare-grant/how-to-clai

Why not take a look at our short film below "Grants for Students with Children or Adult Dependants 2018/19"

With regards to your Tax Credits, I would suggest speaking to HMRC direct.

Hope the above helps

Hello Monte2586

Appreciate your post - thank you.

I would suggest submitting your SFE application asap and on receipt of your Notification of Entitlement letter, speak your local job centre / benefits office regarding how your Student Finance Entitlement would affect any benefits you currently receive.

Remember, you can cancel some or all elements of your entitlement.

Hello Dental Nurse

Thanks for posting.

Firstly all applications are assessed on an individual basis. Taking into account your residency and previous study, I am unable to comment on whether you would qualify for a Tuition Fee Loan and / or a Maintenance Loan.

I would suggest you submit your application at your earliest opportunity, to ensure you have support in place before the start of your intended course in September.

It is likely that additional residency evidence will be required, but you will be notified of this on receipt of your application.

The following short films may help with your application. Why not take a look?
