I've just done a ton of YR10 exams today.

My DT one was two hours, very easy.
But my Maths non-calculator was difficult. Its the higher one and it was the first time I sat a proper higher paper. It was quite difficult and my tiredness and nerves let me down. I was very nervous and someone told me if I fail this I won't get into my college. I really want a 6-7 in maths as I enjoy the subject and I'm good at it, but I fail badly under pressure. My DT was easy as I knew what would crop up. Do these exams really matter? If so, would it be possible for me to resit the exam? I hate sitting in the hall/gym and having to do exams. Is there a way of being placed elsewhere??? Cheers.

It depends on how your school like to do things. Some subjects and courses allow you to complete your final exam in year 10, but unless you have been told this then it is most likely not the case. For example, I take BTEC music and VCERT sport science and both subjects allow me to complete my exams at the end of this year (10) and if I do well enough then I can have them done and dusted. If I want to retake them then I can do so later on in the year. If your school haven’t told you this then it’s most likely that the exams you have just sat are only mocks to get you used to the exam conditions and won’t mean anything in terms of your final grade. As for sitting elsewhere, you could try talking to your exam leader and explaining your anxiety around the environment of the exams. Hopefully they will understand and allow you to complete them elsewhere

I highly doubt your college entrance will be dependent on anything you achieve in year 10.

For special arrangements regarding exam venues this is normally reserved for those with education needs (i.e. mental health, disability or other medical reasons that the exam hall is unsuitable).

If you're feeling stressed I would thoroughly recommend reading one of my favourite all-time threads on TSR here:
