My preliminary journey to band 6s in advanced maths, modern history, legal studies, philosophy, advanced English, extension English and economics

The English language dictionary defines an odyssey as "a series of adventurous journeys usually marked by many changes of fortune." I totally feel like this term is befitting to the academic journey that I will be facing the next two years. Moreover, I'll be studying the Odyssey for the next two years in English Extension 1.

You're probably reading this (perhaps not, considering that British people wouldn't really bother with the Australian education system) and wondering what that subject even is.

I'm a year 11 student (my penultimate year of high school in Australia) and I'm 16. I believe my grade is equivalent to that of AS levels in the U.K. The year 11 / AS level course in Australia is called the 'preliminary' course. The final year is called the HSC (higher school certificate)- it involves students taking a massive final exam in addition to the past year of assignments and exams to calculate a score with a maximum of 99.95. The score is used as an entry for university courses.

A bit more info about me: I'm Cath and I hope to study law at university. I didn't use a stronger modal word because honestly, my plans are quite uncertain. I just know that I'll like to study something in the field of law/english/philosophy/economics/politics and go on to be a writer, journalist or professor. I guess in that sense, I've got a lot figured out already !! I'm a very quiet and reserved person since I prefer to observe. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and quite sensible. But I love making people laugh and seeing others happy and I LOVE WHOLESOME MEMES : ) THEY ARE A BLESSING. I do a number of extracurriculars but I won't list them all since it may be identifiers for who I am... Gotta be discreet and all : (

I do however work two jobs which I find really rewarding! Both are related to private tutoring/tutoring marking.

I'm obsessed (I rarely use this word lightly) with films. I like compiling and categorising film lists, adding to my scrapbook of beautiful still shots from films and obviously, watching films. I love music and can appreciate jams of all flavours. I have a soft spot for indie/psychedelic bands and alternative hiphop. I love reading: from newspapers, magazines, novels, to graphic novels and pamphlets in the dentist waiting room. I voraciously devour writing (or any words really) like a starved toddler. Richard Aoyade is the only deity I follow. In my spare time, I write a lot of satirical or comedic poems and stories.

Okay, time to wind this up! I'm super hyped to be doing this and i know it will definitely keep me motivated and super focused this year! I'm looking forward to documenting my progress

    Cheers,
    Cath

That's great to see you being motivated! Hope you'd end having what you want. Feel free to tag me in your future posts if you want to have an audience (though I can't promise that I'll be here most of the time), it has been a bit lonely for me here
