I hope this is the right forum for this.

So I have a very achievable offer to study at Oxford. For various reasons I'm not sure if it's the degree course I actually want to do. Some people have told me not to go to Oxford, but that's not something I want to get into - this is all from the ground assumption that I'm at least accepting my place and going there.

Essentially, I'm wondering what the procedure is for people who drop out of their course, which there may be a decent possibility of my doing (again, assumption for this post is that I'm going regardless). Is it possible for me to apply to another university (e.g. Cambridge) whilst I'm at Oxford? If not, do people who drop out just reapply for a different uni as soon as they can (which I assume for most people leaves them starting their new degree at least a year, and often two years, later than their original)?

Can people who drop out of Oxbridge go back to their course and if so do most people who drop out do this?

Yes, you can generally apply to one university while studying at another. However, one exception is that Cambridge won't entertain applications from students currently attending another British university.

Ironically Oxford will do so, but that doesn't help you.
