I was wondering if I should include real-life experiences in my application and mention my hometown, school and etc?

Or should I not make it so personal and just be general?

Depends on what the application is etc.
However I would suggest mentioning some real-life experiences but don't focus too heavily on that, focus more heavily on your achievements and where you hope to go! Ultimately, you don't get a scholarship due to where you come from but due to what you've done to deserve it; so make it overwhelmingly about that!
Which accompaniment is best?
