I have been feeling depressed for 2-3 years now. The past 10 months I have been feeling a lot worse. I had counselling but I feel like it hasn't helped me. I'm 17, if I get antidepressants, does my doctor need to tell my parents? x

Hey, that's understandable! I've had counselling in the past, and also found that it didn't work for me. I do know people who have tried 3 or 4 different counsellors before actually finding someone they can speak to and get benefit from.

With regard to medication, you've a right to confidentiality, and because of your age, unless the doctor deems that you are a danger to yourself or others, then if you tell them that you don't want your parents to know, then they should respect that.
