Markov, why were you waiting for someone else to post? You should have helped the thread along further by posting as many as you could

Holding the entire thread up just to get a 100 post is NOT acceptable behavior.
What! I just came back and it was on 193698 I did the 99th post

Also, just got the Acer back out to do a laptop battery test on it (one of the batteries, with the lowest capacity, is going on eBay) and unsurprisingly, it's rather warm again.... why oh why did Acer make laptop that was prone to overheating?

Reminds me of my old acer laptop. It would overheat in minutes if I had more than one program open

I've edited my last post now for you

Yeah, Acer wasn't very good, were they... have you still got your old Acer? Sometimes, it can be pinned down to a piece of software using up unnecessary CPU cycles, though with my Acer, it's an inherent design flaw... even with a new clean install of Windows 7, it still gets hot...

Only thing for it is to take the whole laptop apart (see here) to get to the fan/heatsink, and put some new thermal compound in. The fan seems OK at the moment but I might as well give it a bit of clean as well.
