    Yeah, Acer wasn't very good, were they... have you still got your old Acer? Sometimes, it can be pinned down to a piece of software using up unnecessary CPU cycles, though with my Acer, it's an inherent design flaw... even with a new clean install of Windows 7, it still gets hot...

    Only thing for it is to take the whole laptop apart (see here) to get to the fan/heatsink, and put some new thermal compound in. The fan seems OK at the moment but I might as well give it a bit of clean as well.
    Yep, in fact I managed to boot it up about a week ago. I put some files from it onto an external hard drive but the transfer rate was absolutely dreadful, barely 1Mb/s at times :laugh:
