What is Croydon College's higher education like?

I have an interview on Monday for the foundation degree course in digital film production at Croydon College, and was wondering if anyone's had experience with HE at Croydon, and what it's like there? I haven't heard many good things about the college, but I'm not sure what people think of HE there.

Also, if anyone has experience with the interview procedure there, I'd like to hear it

Thanks in advance.

I think most of the shadow surrounding Croydon College now is regarding the fact they need things like metal detectors at the doors etc... it's supposed to be a little bit rough nowadays, at least, that's what my sociology teacher said heh!

I don't know that much about it though sorry!

I haven't heard a lot of good things about the area or the college itself either, so thanks for that!
Although I've never been there myself though.
I Live near Croydon college and to be honest, most people that go to Croyodn college go there because thats there only option. Full of "Rude Bwoys"

Do you know if the higher education bit is separate to the college, or are they both in one place?

i go to croydon higher education college and i love it. im in my 2nd year of a BA degree in fashion with business and the lecturers are good and its so local to all the shops and the train station etc.
the college itself IS quite rough and is full of rude bwoys! lol buttt theyre harmless, only way it will cause a problem for you is if you get involved with them which you wont.
the HE building is seperate and is ugly lol but its well equipped for my course so i dont mind, but in 2009 gettin a new building just for HE which will be much better. the only reason im ever in the actual college is to go to the library or walk through to get to the HE building.
Also there is security everywhere and they are really strict on you having your id card with you at all times, if u dont have it you get sent home, also not allowed to wear any hoods or hats in the building at all and to get in to the buildings you have to swipe your card.
its a good college, obviously i would have preffered to go to a 'proper' uni but their fashion course was best for me so i cant complain.

The college, much like Croydon itself, is a bit raffish but likeable in its own way. For arts subjects its actually a great place to go and isn't so badly regarded for things like art & design with good staff.
Croydon itself I think is a really good place. There's loads of shops, lots of places to grab something to eat and there's something for everyone in terms of evening/weekend stuff.
Not sure much about it myself, but i know someone who used to go there and she dropped out cause she hated the people/atmosphere

Sorry for not replying sooner, haven't been on here for a while...
Thanks for the updates everyone, I went for the interview there and it didn't seem that bad from what I saw - although I do get what you mean by some of the people there, but hopefully I'd never have to meet them.

The higher education part is in a separate building close to the main college building. You will however have to go into the main building to use library facilities etc.

Croydon college these days is supposed to be generally really bad - even since I left 6 years ago. I used to teach on the Access program that is now part of the HE college. Part of the problem is that the college refuses to pay its lecturers the negotiated national rate of pay, so moral amongst teachers is low resulting in many of the better teachers leaving.

Out of the courses run within the HE part of the college the art and design department has the best reputation. THe HE college has a different entrance from the main college so you may well find it better over there. They also have a bar.

All I have to say is that me and a mate went all the way down to Croydon one day and we came across an ad for Croydon College on the side of a telephone box that said "Apply now!, We accept GCSE grade G and above!". We lol'ed all the way back to North London.
