A guy who I’ve not spoken to in years saw i had posted a photo on social media somewhere close by to him (we live in different cities). He started messaging me, mostly small talk but nothing flirty or anything - I’ve been replying to stay polite as I think it’s rude to just ignore.
He asked me to go for coffee next time he’s in my city, and I don’t know how to politely decline without sounding like a **** - firstly I’m in a relationship, and secondly I’d feel weird meeting him as I was never particularly close to him before.
He’s not been flirty or suggested that this might be a date, and I’m not sure
If he even knows Im in a relationship, so if I randomly interject with “I have a boyfriend” I might end up embarrassing myself as he might not even be interested in that way.
What do I say?? How do I politely decline and mention I’m seeing someone without embarrassing myself?

Just tell him you are in a relationship and cannot meet him.

Better to be presumptuous than end up on a date with him!
Just say “sorry, I have a boyfriend and I don’t think he’d be comfortable with me being 1:1 with another guy!” Jealous boyfriend card works every time.

Say "Sure I'll come to the coffee shop at 12.30 pm Saturday. I'll be there with my gorgeous hunk of a boyfriend. We won;t be able to stay long as we;re going to the match / opera / ballet / organ recital / trainspotting / our wedding / his grandma's funeral / to get my teeth pulled - 3 pm kick off."

just tell him you're a swallow hoe and he could do better than you
