Was wondering what was going on.

(Original post by trapking)
Lol this shows a lack of understanding on your part.

Matic was brought in to be the player that provides a screen to the back 4. He provides protection/cover for the defence as evident in many games this season where our defenders like Jones/Smalling have been further up the pitch and Matic has been effectively playing like a CB. Notice when we take corners he's always outside the 18 yard box to stop opposition counter attacks.

Thats why like Rk says Jose hesitates to play Matic and Herrera together they effectively do the same thing just Matic is better at it than Herrera (and he's more physical).

Wrt to fullbacks we have been linked with several. The reason we haven't bought any yet is because other positions took more priority e.g. CBs where a problem so he got Bailly and Lindelof, we didnt have a recognised striker with Zlatan injured so he got Lukaku, Carrick isnt as mobile anymore so we got Matic etc.

People seem to forget Mourinho is rebuilding this whole squad it will take a bit of time and credit to Mourinho because we actually did compete despite City spending a lot more and managed to be in top 4 comfortably this season.

Can I remind people that last season Chelsea where 24 points ahead of us, Spurs where 17 points ahead yet both teams are now behind us. Therefore City being 16 points ahead doesnt mean we wont catch up/wont do better next season...
Lol.

Matic (certainly recently) hasn't been screening, he's being forced to do more running playing beside Pogba and actually pushes foreard more than id like. He hasnt even been sitting like Carrick does. The gap isn't so much between Pogba and Matic as much as its Matic doing a one man midfield blockade and Pogba not sweeping in behind. Thus the gap. Matic even jumps forward to intercept, leaving us exposed. Sadly he's losing more of those rather than intercepting and moving forward. The only time you can really call him a CB is when he drops to collect the ball, something Pogba does about as much.

Dembele basically showing the world what Pogba is supposed to be doing for us.

Ngl it's kinda depressing to be a United fan rn
Yeah - insane performance from Dembele - barely even needed Dier. Rock solid defensively and for some unknown reason incredible as stepping forward and skinning playerz

Dembele's ball retention is up there with the best in the world. Goes under the radar at Spurs.

People may criticise Poch (mostly Mourinho fanboys) for his lack of trophies but the guy has done an incredible job at Spurs with the resources. Within a few years he's taken them from a good team to going toe-to-toe with the European heavyweights.

Has that SAF ability to get the absolute maximum out of his players.

Clubs actually get very few tickets for finals since so many go to sponsors and corporates.

Capacity for the final is probably about 70,000. I'd imagine that 20-30k will go to sponsors/corps and so you may only get 20,000-25,000 fans for each teams.

Attendance at Etihad is usually over 50,000 and all the casual fans will come out for a final too.

...Paul Pogba wants Jose Mourinho to alter Manchester United's formation to allow the France international to play an attacking role on the left side of a midfield three.
Pogba believes his ability to impact matches has been limited by the defensive duties he is expected to perform for the English Premier League club.

Until Mourinho buys another CM, I don't think he's going to change to a 3 man midfield.

Usually either the player or Mourinho don't last very long at the club after that.

I think only Hazard directly questioned his tactics after the Atletico game.

Tbf he won the league before getting sacked so who knows.

Yep Poch and Simeone are the ones you look at in terms of evolving a project. I guess Klopp did it at Dortmund before it imploded in his final season there.

Man Utd should really try to hire Poch or Simeone.

Has he actually question Jose's tactics? Only quotes in that article are Jose's.

I don't like the 4-2-3-1 for us though. Jose either needs to become far more serious about his coaching with respect to positional play and structure in both attack and defence or he needs to more to a formation which isn't so obviously vulnerable.

As fans people need to be honest with themselves about what actually makes a team like City good and a manager like Pep good. Then take a look at our team and set realistic expectations.

From the start for me Jose's appointment is about rebuilding. Rebuilding the squad and the club from the post SAF **** up. Bringing in the calibre of players needed and getting United back to CL level. I don't think his appointment has legs much beyond that. In terms of trophies, getting in the right manager directly after Jose and the timing of that will be more important.

I’ve not heard of the source before so unsure over its reliability.

I’m surprised Mourinho doesn’t play Herrera though. With Chelsea he had Matic and Fabregas (your Pogba) and Oscar who would do a lot of defensive work. Why not just stick Herrera in that Oscar role with Matic?

Who would you get as manager anyway? Pochettino is reportedly signing a new contract at Spurs and looks well settled there. As far as rebuilding goes, 6 of the 14 players used in the Newcastle game are Ferguson signings. That’s pretty atrocious considering those players include the likes of Young at full back, Jones/Smalling, Valencia. Basically the entire defence is Ferguson’s.

Mourinho is gone if this escalates imo, Pogba is bigger than him at the club.

Its fair for Mourinho to call him out on not working back when his team need him. Fair point to argue the formation doesnt suit him but you can imagine Dr Bruyne running back and covering if he spots a gap in defence.

Blown out of proportion but I actually dont know who theyd back here

Jose isnt doing a good rebuilding job then, Lindelof has been benched, Matic and sanchez while great arent long term, he's never been a youth promoting manager. Happy for him to remove the deadwood but we're not even bringing solid replacements to improve over time and playing them.

Hazard said that Chelsea just play on the counter attack and he didn't like that or something along those lines.
