# What is the area underneath a stress and strain graph and how do you calculate it? watch

1. I am having a mind block rn.

How can we calculate the area of a curved stress n strain graph without integration?
2. Sometimes if it's a curve the Q says 'estimate' because that's the best you can do.

I have seen an AS marckscheme where counting squares was the first method given - I've also seen examples of where you estimate the area of the triangle (if the curve isn't too curvy) and then add/subtract a bit to account for the fact that it's not really a triangle with straight sides.

If I had to do this I'd probably draw the best triangle, calculate its area then maybe count the squares that made up the adjustment, if that makes sense.
